Natural Deodorant that actually works

Most mainstream store bought deodorants contain Aluminium and it is the Aluminium in these deodorants that prevents sweating so you don't smell. No one wants to smell however Aluminium exposure has been linked to Alzheimer's disease and it also interfere's with your estrogen production which may promote the growth of both cancerous and non cancerous breast cells.

As a consumer and daily user of deodorant I made the decision years ago to stop using deodorant that contains this ingredient. I have used some great natural store bought deodorants but I also have made my own natural deodorant. I will share with you a recipe that works and stops the smell.

What you will Need:

2 tablespoons Coconut Oil

3 tablespoons Shea Butter

2 tablespoons Bicarbonate Soda

3 Arrorwroot Powder or Corn Starch

10-12 drops of your Essential Oils (Tea Tree, Lavender, Lemongrass, Geranium, lemon, Rosemary and Thyme)

Method :

Put the Coconut Oil and Shea Butter in a double boiler or make your own double boiler with a ceramic or glass bowl rested above a pan with boiling water. Mix until melted. Once melted turn heat off down and mix in other ingredients Bicarbonate Soda and Arrowroot Powder. Once paste has formed remove and add let cool slightly before adding in 10-12 drop of your chosen essential oils.

Tea Tree (helps to kill odour causing bacteria and help skin irritations)

Lavender Oil (help with skin irritations and smell great)

Lemon (If using this oil start by only adding a few drops as is a stronger oil)

Lemongrass (If using this oil start by only adding a few drops as is stronger oil)

Geranium (antibacterial properties)

Thyme (antibacterial properties)

Rosemary (antiseptic properties)

Store in a glass jar with lid on bench out of sunlight or fridge.

Some people with sensitive skin may have a reaction with bicarbonate soda so please ensure that you test and make sure that this recipe works for your skin type.

Where to Buy Natural Deodorants -

As a busy Natural Mama of three kids myself I understand that we don't all have the time to make our own Natural Deodorants ourselves and there are many good Natural Deodorants that you can buy. The only good Natural Deodorant I have found in mainstream supermarkets has been Body Crystal and Crystal Deodorant which contain Natural Mineral Salts to stop the smell.

There are many other deodorants available at your local health food shop or online retailers. I will share my favourite natural store bought deodorants for you in another article.
